About our church.

OUR STORY

Established in 1876 Robertson Anglican Church has been part of the Robertson and Burrawang community for well over 100 years. Lots has changed over the years, but the one thing that hasn't changed is the good news of Jesus.

Our church life and ministry are grounded on these five foundations for effective Christ centred ministry:

  • We are not ashamed of Jesus nor of his gospel, for this gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16). And it's Jesus's word that dwells in us richly teach, as we sing and as we encourage one another in our gatherings. Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, we do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:16-17).

  • As God's church we pray that God can use us to make disciple-making disciples by teaching 'all that Jesus has commanded' (Matthew 28:19). We aim to do this predominately through personal relationships and friendships, in our Sunday meetings and in our small groups that meet during the week.

  • The Bible and prayer are fundamental to all we do, they are the tools God has given us to serve and love one another.
The Bible is Word of God, which 'makes us wise for salvation' and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work' (2 Timothy 3:15-17). The Bible is central to all our gatherings and is our authority and guide in all our ministries.
We commit ourselves to prayer because God tells us to as we trust him. As we pray we partner with God in his work. In Philippians 4:6-7 God instructs us to 'not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus'.

  • 1 John 4:10-11 explains the motivation for loving healthy relationships in our church community:
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
In all we do we aim to promote such loving 'Christ-like' relationships. Colossians 3:12-14 paints a picture of what this looks like community as we gather together as God's people.
    Colossians 3:12-14
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

  • Finally, church and ministry at Robbo Anglican is built on the foundation of 'building for the future.' Training and raising up leaders who will serve future generations is key and a biblical principle.
2 Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV) 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

What we believe

Robertson Anglican Church, which includes St David's Anglican Church at Burrawang, is an Evangelical Anglican church that cooperates in fellowship with other churches in the Diocese of Sydney.

Our historic and theological roots go back to the Protestant Reformation, most explicitly expressed in the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England and the Book of Common Prayer.

At Robbo Anglican we are united in our conviction that God became one of us in the person of Jesus Christ, who was crucified and rose again to bring us forgiveness and new life, and that He is now gathering people to spend eternity with Him.

This is the good news (or gospel) that we encourage each other to live out in our daily lives and which we seek to share with our neighbours, family and friends. As we do this, we aim to know God better and build Christ's church while we look forward to his return.
